Andrea Fowler is the Assistant Director at the Center for South Asia, where her role includes K-14 Outreach Programming, coordinating FLAS for CSA and SASLI, and serving as the Conference Coordinator for the Annual Conference on South Asia. As part of the SASLI administration team, Andrea also assists with event programming and SASLI consortium communications. In 2022, Andrea began co-administration of the South Asia Book Award, and in 2023 began a two-year term as co-chair of the Wisconsin International Resource Consortium (WIRC), the outreach arm of the Institute for Regional and International Studies. In 2022, she earned her Ph.D. in Musicology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, completing her dissertation on composer Julius Eastman. She holds an MM in Musicology from the University of Missouri-Kansas City
Conservatory of Music and Dance, an MA in Vocal Performance from Truman State University, and a BS in Music Education from Missouri Western State University. Past research collaborations include public outreach concerts with Sound Out Loud and Madison Public Philosophy, and presenting at the inaugural LunART Women’s Music Festival in Madison. She has presented her research at national and regional conferences. Areas of research interest include minimalism, American experimental traditions as “translations” of world musics, film music, and wide variety of topics concerning music and race.
